SET THE COURSE
The Senior Manager, Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance is responsible for leading Tommy Bahama's product safety, regulatory compliance, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs to ensure compliance with applicable global laws, regulations, and company standards. This role develops and implements compliance strategies and frameworks, monitors emerging regulatory requirements, assesses business impacts, and drives cross-functional execution to mitigate risk and protect the brand. Working closely with Legal, Distribution Center Compliance, Marketing, Product Development, Sourcing, and other key stakeholders, the Senior Manager provides regulatory expertise and strategic guidance to enable compliant, sustainable practices across products, packaging, and operations while supporting Tommy Bahama's strategic and corporate responsibility objectives.
BE THE ISLAND GUIDE
- Directly supervise and develop the Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance Specialist, including prioritizing work, managing performance, providing coaching, and supporting professional development.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive global product safety, regulatory compliance, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) strategy aligned with company objectives and values.
- Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, best practices, standards, and regulatory changes; attend industry meetings and conferences; and develop strategies to ensure Tommy Bahama's compliance practices remain current, effective, and positioned for future regulatory requirements.
- Interpret new legislation and regulatory requirements, assess business impacts, and communicate changes and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
- Lead the assessment, interpretation, and implementation of global product compliance requirements, including product safety, labeling, chemical restrictions, environmental regulations, and quality standards.
- Ensure products, packaging, and related business practices comply with applicable laws, regulations, and company standards in all markets.
- Develop and manage supplier compliance and due diligence processes, including Restricted Substances List (RSL), testing, certification, and regulatory requirements; track supplier performance and ensure timely vendor follow-up and resolution of compliance issues.
- Oversee product testing and compliance verification programs, including management of third-party laboratories, review of test results, assessment of chemical compliance exceptions (including BPA and Proposition 65 considerations), risk evaluation, disposition recommendations, and resolution of compliance failures.
- Manage product quality and compliance issues, including corrective action plans, customer complaints, and product recalls, as needed.
- Draft policy documents and maintain compliance manuals, protocols, labeling guidance, standard operating procedures, and other directives to communicate product safety and regulatory requirements to internal teams and vendors.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to internal stakeholders and external partners on product safety, labeling, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and deliver training programs to promote awareness and understanding of compliance obligations, company requirements, and industry best practices.
- Prepare and present compliance metrics, risk assessments, regulatory updates, and program performance reports to leadership and key stakeholders.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with Legal, Distribution Center Compliance, Marketing, Product Development, Sourcing, suppliers, testing laboratories, and other key stakeholders to support compliance objectives.
- Lead the implementation and ongoing management of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) programs, including regulatory reporting, fee management, stakeholder engagement, and compliance with packaging and product stewardship requirements.
- Manage product-compliance and testing program costs, including reconciliation of third-party laboratory invoices, validation against negotiated pricing, and partnership with Finance on accruals and chargebacks.
- Support market-entry and market-specific product requirements across all regions where the company does business, including country-specific labeling and chemical notification/inventory obligations (e.g., AICIS in Australia).
- Manage mandatory regulatory reporting and registrations across jurisdictions beyond EPR, including plastics registries (e.g., Canada Federal Plastics Registry) and chemical reporting/inventory requirements.
- Review and substantiate product and environmental marketing claims for accuracy and regulatory compliance (e.g., recyclability and FTC “Green Guides” requirements), partnering with Marketing and Legal to maintain claims discipline.
- Develop and maintain compliance data systems, trackers, and reference tools (e.g., restricted substances and testing trackers, attribute and trim guides), applying version control to ensure cross-functional teams operationalize requirements from current, accurate documentation.
ESSENTIALS FOR LIFE IN PARADISE
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, manufacturing, chemistry, law, environmental science or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10+ years of product compliance management preferably within the apparel industry, with a focus on global
- Strong knowledge of international product compliance regulations, standards, and testing protocols. (e.g. REACH, CPSIA, Proposition 65, Oeko-Tex, etc.)
- Proven track record of developing and implementing effective compliance strategies and programs.
- Excellent understanding of supply chain processes and the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Detail oriented, analytical and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent data & analytical skills and a strong detail focus
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills; must have an ability to manage deadlines, multiple projects & pivot as needed Strong written and verbal communication skills with a service approach
- Ability to master, on-the-job, new subjects and new ways of working, as the needs of the business evolve
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Multiple factors will vary the applicable rate of pay for this role, including an individual’s experience, knowledge, and skillset, as well as work location and available budget.
Pay Range: 105,300.00 - 175,300.00 USD Annual
