Manager of Trade Compliance

Dorman Products is seeking a highly capable Trade Compliance Manager to be responsible for managing worldwide operations to ensure adherence to import and export compliance regulations through deep knowledge of Customs requirements, demonstrated ability to build a Customs and Export Compliance program, (including the organizational development, systems and process elements), driving success by rolling up their sleeves and contributing to the analysis.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading the daily activities for import and exports compliance operations, including managing direct reports, daily workload and projects.
  • Identification of process improvements to streamline work and data flow, working with internal (logistics, supply chain, finance, product) and external (freight forwarders, customs house brokers) partners to elevate Compliance program
  • Manage and ensure continued participation in customs programs including ISA, C-TPAT, NAFTA and evaluate the applicability of other preferential programs (duty drawback, FTZ).
  • Responsible for determination and full compliance of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification, entry valuation and country of origin of Dorman items
  • Lead in the development, deployment and conducting of internal training to ensure Trade Compliance knowledge is pervasive throughout the Dorman organization
  • Develop, implement and maintain work instructions, policies and Trade Compliance manuals.
  • Provide global support for Trade Compliance matters based on local and international regulations.
  • Manage and conduct regular reviews, compliance audits, review corrective actions, evaluating broker compliance and broker metrics. 
  • Monitor regulatory changes and communicate as applicable to ensure understanding and implement globally, including FR 301/232 and tariff Exclusion regulations.  Identify and execute tariff mitigation strategies
  • Work with internal and external legal counsel to ensure compliance for all import and export transactions.

 

Skills, Abilities and Experience:

  • 12+ years of direct experience operating, leading and developing Trade Compliance within a global company.  4-8 years managing a Trade Compliance team
  • Must be Licensed Customs Broker
  • Experience importing/exporting into/from Southeast Asia and North American cross border shipments
  • Working knowledge of import regulations, product classifications, documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Experience utilizing ERP systems, such as SAP and Global Trade Management (GTM) applications
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, presentation) with ability to implement and conduct training.
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, problem solving, and time management skills to meet or exceed deadlines, and maintain flexibility in fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels within the corporation, including counsel, Product, Finance and Engineering teams
  • Strong attention to detail and proficient recordkeeping and database maintenance skills
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently to make effective decisions in a timely manner.
