Our Company 

PanAust Limited is an Australian-headquartered copper and gold mining company with operations in Laos, and pre-development assets in Papua New Guinea and Chile.  

 

In Laos, PanAust owns a 90 per cent interest in Phu Bia Mining Limited with the Government of Laos owning the remaining 10 per cent. Phu Bia Mining owns and operates PanAust’s two award winning operations – Phu Kham Copper-Gold and Ban Houayxai Gold-Silver, both located in Xaisomboun Province, 120km north of Vientiane.   

 

In Papua New Guinea, PanAust holds a 100 per cent interest in the Frieda River Limited Copper-Gold project, which is a transformative pre-development integrated mining, renewable energy and infrastructure project.  

 

In Chile, PanAust holds a 66 per cent interest in the Inca de Oro Copper-Gold Project through a Chilean incorporated joint venture company, Inca de Oro S. A. 

 

The Role 

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Risk & Sustainability Superintendent to join our Corporate Head Office team on a 12-month fixed term contact, in Fortitude Valley’s James Street precinct.  

 

Reporting to the Group Manager, Risk & Sustainability the role will support the consistent application and continuous improvement of PanAust’s enterprise risk, sustainability and health, safety, environment and community (HSEC) governance frameworks across the Group. The position will independently lead key risk and sustainability workstreams, including climate and sustainability reporting, enterprise risk management, assurance activities and Group improvement initiatives.    

 

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to): 

  • Develop, Implement and maintain Group risk, sustainability and HSEC standards, proceduressystems and supporting tools. 

  • Co-ordinate sustainability and climate reporting under the Australian Sustainability Reporting Standards, including climate risk and opportunities assessments, scenario analysis, aggregation of data across business units, internal review and assurance readiness. 

  • Support preparation of broader sustainability disclosures including GRI-aligned reporting, modern slavery and human-rights reporting 

  • Coordinate implementation and continuous improvement of the Group Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including strategic and operational risk reviews, risk registers control assessments and management reporting. 

  • Support critical-risk and critical-control governance and other Group HSEC improvement initiatives. 

  • Provide input into the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual corporate reporting processes, including any National and Global sustainability reporting requirements. 

  • Conduct or coordinate second-line reviews of business unit and project implementation of Group risk, sustainability and HSEC requirements and monitor agreed actions. 

  • Work with business units and corporate functions to strengthen sustainability data ownership, methodologies, controls and supporting evidence.  

  • Provide practical risk and sustainability advice to operations, projects and corporate functions, including integration of new and developing businesses into Group frameworks. 

  • Coordinate specialist input and governance for significant sustainability risk exposures including climate, environmental, social, human-rights cyanide code, ARD, tailings, closure and land disturbance. 

  • Develop and deliver risk and sustainability training and capacity building across the Group. 

 

To be successful in this role, you should have: 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in risk management, sustainability, environmental science, health and safety, engineering, business, governance or a related discipline. 

  • At least 8+ years’ experience with exposure to areas in risk, sustainability, HSEC governance or related disciplines. 

  • Experience in mining, resources, heavy industry or another complex operational environment. 

  • Experience with climate and / or sustainability reporting frameworks, preferably including AASB S2 IFRS S2 or TCFD. 

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, and corporate sustainability reporting. 

  • A thorough understanding of governance and assurance principles. 

  • A proven ability to independently manage complex workstreams and work effectively with stakeholders across multiple business units and jurisdictions. 

 

International travel will be a requirement to this role. Candidates will need to be willing to travel to Laos, PNG & Chile if required by the business.
